A photograph can preserve a place, a story and a memory. The competition invited photographers to capture rural Baiyun from different perspectives and document the changes in its communities.

Four local organisations joined forces to hold the Baiyun District Glorystar Cup Rural Revitalization Photography Competition, showcasing the district’s rural development achievements, new initiatives and changing landscapes.

Contest theme

“Develop urban agriculture and support rural revitalisation.” Entries could explore Baiyun’s rural industries, talent, culture, ecology, local organisations and response to the pandemic, showing progress in livelihoods, community life and local governance.

Entry requirements

1. Works that have won awards in photography competitions at or above the district level will not be included in the award evaluation.

2. There is no limit to the number of entries. Submit individual photographs or a series of up to eight images. A series must follow one theme while varying its composition, narrative or subject matter. Any photographic style is welcome, provided the work offers a positive view of rural life and agricultural development in Baiyun.

3. After judging, winners will be asked to email their original images to the designated address. Files must be in JPG format and at least 3 MB per image. Failure to submit them by the requested deadline will be treated as withdrawal from the competition; the organisers accept no responsibility for this.

4. Entries must be authentic and original. Entrants are responsible for any disputes concerning copyright, authorship or portrait rights.

5. The organisers may use winning entries for exhibitions, photo books, public-interest activities and publicity without an additional fee.

Judging

1. Expert judging: After submissions close, provincial and municipal photography experts will assess the entries fairly and impartially.

2. Public voting: Following expert judging, entries receiving an Excellence Award or higher will be displayed on websites and official social-media accounts. Public votes will determine one winner each for the Online Popularity Award, Online Favourite Award and Best Online Participation Award.

How winning photographs will be shared

1. Winning entries will be shown at the Baiyun District Glorystar Cup Rural Revitalization Photography Exhibition in September and December.

2. A Glorystar Cup rural revitalisation photo book will be produced for Baiyun District.

3. Selected photographs and accompanying texts will be published by the Baiyun District Media Center, the Baiyun District Photographers Association’s official account and other media.
