The China Patent Award is one of China’s highest honours in the field of patents. It is reviewed and presented by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization to recognise inventors, designers and patent holders whose use of intellectual property has contributed to technological innovation and economic and social development. Established in 1989, the award had reached its 19th edition at the time of this article, reflecting a high level of scientific and technological innovation and intellectual property achievement in China.
Compared with similar existing technologies, this invention offers the following technical advantages:
By introducing a new chain extender, the invention first extends the silicone rubber’s main polymer chain linearly, then cures and cross-links it into a network structure. This produces a silicone sealant with elongation above 600%, 28% higher than comparable existing sealants. It is suitable for sealing joints in roads, bridges, tunnels, airport runways and similar applications.
The invention uses a compound formulation to prepare a new curing agent. This improves the silicone sealant’s adhesion while maintaining high elongation, achieving a bond strength of up to 1.17 MPa.
Long shelf life and stable performance
Unlike conventional silicone sealants with limited storage life, the sealant developed through this invention maintains stable performance. After 3, 6 and 9 months of storage, its elongation, tensile bond strength, hardness, extrudability and other properties show almost no significant change. Its shelf life exceeds one year.
