Most silicone structural sealants are named according to the application parts, and the corresponding products should be selected according to the parts when used. There are mechanical requirements, and structural glue is needed to bear the force; while the sealant must play a sealing role, mainly airtight, watertight, etc., and does not need to bear the force. To put it simply, the structural glue bears the force and the sealant plays a sealing role. Therefore, structural adhesive can replace sealant under certain conditions, but sealant cannot replace structural adhesive.

The sealant used between the curtain wall panel and its supporting structure needs to withstand a variety of loads and ensure long-term adhesion. It is not allowed to fall off. It must meet the requirements of the national mandatory standard “Silicone Structural Sealant for Construction” (GB16776). Especially in high-rise and super high-rise curtain walls, large-cell glass curtain walls, curtain walls using laminated insulating glass, curtain walls in 9-degree seismic fortification areas, and even in combinations of these situations, it is even more necessary to use high-performance silicone structural sealants. This glue has high tensile strength and elongation at break, and can withstand greater loads with the same bonding width.

The expansion joints between building curtain wall panels need to be filled with glue. In this case, silicone weather-resistant sealant should be used. It needs to withstand the displacement caused by wind load, dynamic load, and deformation caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the base material. Under tension or compression, the bonding property will not be destroyed, and it also has a good elastic recovery rate. After the displacement of the panel disappears, it can return to its original shape.

Stone panel components must use specialized stone silicone sealants. Because stone itself is a porous material, it is easily contaminated and difficult to remove after contamination. General sealants contain non-reactive low-molecular substances such as plasticizers, which will migrate from the inside of the glue to the inside of the stone. Oil stains will appear on the surface of the stone and will attract dust, causing contamination of the stone. This glue is divided into two categories. One is stone caulking glue, which is used for caulking and sealing between stone plates. The second is glue for dry-hanging stone, which is used for bonding between stone and metal hooks. In the past, rigid epoxy tree-based stone dry-hanging adhesives were commonly used. When the building vibrated, stress would also be transmitted to the stone panels, making the stone easily cracked. .

The displacement of the lighting roof caused by its own weight load, snow load, wind load, asymmetric load and thermal expansion and contraction of the material is large and complex, including not only horizontal displacement, but also shear displacement. Especially when using polycarbonate boards, due to its high coefficient of thermal expansion and contraction, it is six or seven times that of glass. This requires the sealant to have low modulus, high movement capability, good adaptability to the material, and the ability to expand and contract freely. It is best to use 50LM (50 low modulus grade) silicone sealant. Its displacement capacity reaches plus or minus 50%. The glue used for lighting ceilings also requires good transparency and good appearance.

The area between doors and windows

The gap between the aluminum alloy and the glass of colored aluminum alloy doors and windows should be filled with room temperature curing sealant. After the sealant has fully cured, the glass and aluminum alloy form a solid body. In the past, polyacrylate, neoprene, polyurethane, etc. were used for filling, and either the bond was easily damaged by external force or harmful gases were emitted. Silicone sealant does not have such disadvantages and can provide long-term sealing and waterproofing.
